Mid-Town Terrace

Tailgaters,

A big thank you to everyone who came out to MidTown Terrace this past Saturday. Thank you for giving up your time during the holiday season to say thank you to the veterans residing at MidTown. I think we can call it a success with no food left over except for two unopened containers of potato salad that we left at MidTown. We served about 600 meals – 300 of steak with baked potato and salad and another 300 of boneless chicken and sausage with sides. Along with water bottles and dessert. I did not hear any complaints on the food and I don’t know how the weather could have been any better.

Attached is a picture of the volunteers at MidTown – not sure why we are posed around an empty box, or if we were working outside of the box, or just what.

A special shout out to Mr. Ray Condron for hauling and setting up the MBUMC cooking trailer and getting started cooking first thing by himself! Also a big thanks to the Band of Brothers from Saint Timothy’s Anglican Church in Spring for bringing their trailer and cooking all those steaks, to Ms. Jacque Conner and her family and Mr. Jorge DeLaRosa for grilling chicken and sausage with Ray, to the Kiwanis for funding and bringing the water bottles and ice, to Ms. Raegan Behrens for bringing and setting up dessert, to Ms. Seleste Esparza for bringing breakfast, as well as to all the other volunteers from Mission Bend United Methodist Church and my co-workers here at Costello, Inc. Also a special thanks to Kroger for making us a deal on those New York strip steaks. I hope I haven’t missed anyone.

I don’t have exact numbers yet, but I think we spent about $2,000 for food and supplies which would be $3.33 per meal. That is right in line with what we usually spend. If you have any receipts that need to be reimbursed please get them to me or Dan Wingerson as soon as you can. I will recap finances in the next email when we have another event scheduled. We don’t have any other events scheduled at the moment but we would like to make a trip to DeGeorge at Union Station early next year. I will be back in touch on that or you can check at http://www.tailgatewithahero.org/ to see what we are up to.

Everyone have a safe and Merry Christmas. Thank you for all you do to honor our veterans and let them know that they are not forgotten.
